David J. Groth received a Bachelors of Science in Education- Vocal Music from Northwest Missouri State University in 2011. While at Northwest, he was actively involved in every choir offered singing both baritone and bass voice parts. Although his degree is in vocal music, he also enjoys playing trombone and was involved in every band that Northwest offered. He continues to perform professionally as a trombonist and vocalist. He has a twin sister, Sarah, who has started her eighth year of teaching Science at Lincoln Southwest High School. Teaching runs in his family; his mother teaches AP and early college Biology at Millard South High School. His father taught band at Westside High School for 36 years. Groth's hobbies include cars, biking, playing Ultimate Frisbee, computers, technology, and cooking. Before coming to Burke, Groth taught one year at Riverside High School in Wathena, KS and three years at Lafayette High School in St. Joseph, MO. In his two years at Burke, Groth has revamped the show choir program, adding a women's show choir, growing the varsity show choir in size and difficulty, and adding an instrumental combo. The Concert Choir has received numerous 1 ratings, and, most recently a 1+ rating at District Music Contest. A successful men's chorus has also been added. Mr. Groth is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, The National Association for Music Education, The National Education Association, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is excited to begin his third year at Burke! This will be his seventh year of teaching. Go Bulldogs!
